30-foot replica Leafs dressing room to tour GTA
TORONTO, Oct. 6 /CNW/ - With less than 10 days to go before the federal
election, the Toronto Maple Leafs will begin their own campaign called Blue &
White Week. It will recognize the start of the team's 2008-09 season. Polls
already show that Blue & White Week will capture the approval of all hockey
Leafs fans are invited to attend the celebration on Monday, October 6 at
noon outside of Air Canada Centre's West Plaza (York Street and Bremner
Blvd.). Blue & White Week will begin with the unveiling of the Leafs Nation
Mobile Fan Zone powered by Ford by General Manager Cliff Fletcher, Head Coach
Ron Wilson, player Dominic Moore, and Marlies player Max Taylor.
The Leafs Nation Mobile Fan Zone is a 30-foot trailer with a replica
Leafs dressing room on board. The trailer will depart from Air Canada Centre's
West Plaza (York Street and Bremner Blvd.) and make numerous stops throughout
the Greater Toronto Area igniting the passion and spirit of Leafs Nation.
Hockey fans who visit the Leafs Nation Mobile Fan Zone will have an
opportunity to tour the replica Leafs dressing room, meet Leafs players,
alumni, and Carlton the Bear at select stops. While on board, fans will be
outfitted with free Leafs Spirit is Everything gear including t-shirts,
tattoos, flags and wigs. More than 150,000 Spirit is Everything items will be
distributed during the six-day tour.
The Leafs and Marlies players will also model the teams' alternate third
sweaters. The Leafs alternate third sweater is a return to the classic Leafs
jersey worn from 1942 to the start of the 1967 playoffs. It was also worn
again during the 1998-99 "Maple Leaf Gardens - Memories and Dreams" campaign.
The Marlies alternate third sweater features a new look for Duke the Dog
whose appearance aligns with the team's game identity - tough, fast-paced
action with an emphasis on family fun.
The Leafs Nation Mobile Fan Zone will be parked at Dundas Square on
Thursday, October 9 from noon to 11 p.m. as part of the Leafs Season Opener
Party presented by Smirnoff Ice. Admission is free.
Fans can anticipate a special unveiling at noon. They can also enjoy many
activities including the Leafs Off-Ice Hockey Tour and the Smirnoff Ice Skills
Competition. There will be plenty of prizes, giveaways and opportunities to
win tickets to see the Leafs at Air Canada Centre. Starting at 7 p.m., fans
can watch CBC's Hockey Night in Canada's broadcast of the Leafs vs. the
Detroit Red Wings game on the high-definition screen.
Another key stop on the Leafs Nation tour will be Ricoh Coliseum, home of
the Toronto Marlies on Friday, October 10 between 5 and 7 p.m. in Marlies
Alley. The American Hockey League (AHL) North Division Champions and Leafs AHL
affiliate will host the Binghamton Senators - AHL affiliate of the Ottawa
Senators - in their home opener later that evening.
The six-day tour will end at the Leafs Nation Home Opener Tailgate Party
powered by Ford just prior to their first home game of the season on Saturday,
October 11. The Leafs Nation Mobile Fan Zone will be parked on Bay Street,
which will be closed to traffic between Lake Shore Boulevard and Front Street.
Admission to the Tailgate is free.
At the Tailgate, Leafs fans can experience Leafs Off-Ice Hockey Tour
activities, meet Leafs alumni, and enjoy the many food, beverage and retail
concessions beginning at 4 p.m.. Fans will also be entertained with a live
concert by the Carpet Frogs, best known as the back up band for Burton
Cummings and Randy Bachman. Leafs fans without tickets to Saturday's home
opener are encouraged to attend the Tailgate Party for a chance to win tickets
to the game and to enjoy the Blue and White atmosphere. The Leafs home opener
against the Montreal Canadiens will be broadcast on a large screen at the
