HALIFAX, Aug. 18 /CNW/ - Over 100 of Canada's top lawn bowlers begin
their quest to earn the title of National Champion in Halifax as the 2008
Canadian National Lawn Bowling Championships get underway.
The Championships, this year carrying the moniker 'Bowls By The Sea',
will run until Saturday, August 23, when the medal winners will be determined
for men and women in Singles, Pairs and Fours. Three lawn bowling clubs, St.
Mary's (Singles), Dartmouth (Pairs) and Bedford (Fours) will be used for the
The National Lawn Bowling Championships is the premier event for
top-level Canadian bowlers. Provincial champions compete head to head in a
round robin format with playoffs to decide the champions. Nine of the ten
provinces are represented and each of the participating provinces has sent a
full slate of competitors.
Opening ceremonies for the Championships begin at 9:00 am on Monday,
August 18 at the Dartmouth Lawn Bowling Club and the first bowl is rolled at
10:00 am. The Bedford Lawn Bowling Club will host Championship Saturday with
the bronze medal games in the morning and the gold medal games in the
afternoon, followed by the closing ceremonies.
Bowls Canada Boulingrin is a national, not-for-profit organization
