TORONTO, Jan. 8 /CNW/ - The History Makers Board is proud to announce
that Laurence Rees is to receive this year's Lifetime Achievement Award.
Laurence Rees has been a pioneer of history program making at the BBC. As
Editor of Timewatch he commissioned programs which set the standard in the UK
and throughout the world. At the same time he developed a number of award
winning series with independent producers. In his own right, Rees is a
multi-award winning film maker and historian, specializing in the Second World
War. He is especially known for the BAFTA and Banff World Television Festival
Award winning Nazis: a Warning from History and Auschwitz: The Nazis and The
Final Solution, which won the History Book of the Year Award in 2006. His most
recent series is World War II: Behind Closed Doors.
"Laurence is a man of great intelligence and accomplishment. He has been
a leader at the BBC in developing history programs and has set a high standard
for the rest of the world's broadcasters," says Bill Nemtin, Executive
Director History Makers Summit. "This Award recognizes excellence, and
Laurence continues in that tradition."
Last year's Lifetime Achievement Award went to veteran US broadcaster
History Makers 2009 - International Summit of History and Current Affairs
Producers will take place in New York City from January 29-31 at the Marriott
Downtown. As with last year's event, there will be a top program awards
presentation, master classes and panels and an environment for delegates to
meet with leading commissioning editors from around the world.
