Allergan Canada Launches The Juvéderm(TM) Revitalizer
TORONTO, Oct. 9 /CNW/ - Allergan Canada, the makers of BOTOX Cosmetic(R)
and Juvéderm(TM) facial filler, has launched an innovative on-line service
that allows Canadians to experience a virtual cosmetic enhancement make-over
with the click of a mouse. The tool, The Juvéderm(TM) Revitalizer, is
available on line at www.juvederm.ca.
The Juvéderm Revitalizer allows consumers to visualize what they could
look like after treatment with Juvéderm facial filler. Consumers simply upload
a photo of their face onto www.juvederm.ca and click on the many treatment
area options to see what they would look like after a virtual makeover. For
instance, they can see what they will look like with softened smile lines or
"This is a great tool for patients and physicians alike," says Dr. Fred
Weksberg, Toronto Cosmetic Dermatologist. "Physicians can only do so much to
describe what the result of facial fillers will look like. This is an easy way
for people who are considering treatments to actually see what they can look
like, without even leaving their homes."
Non-surgical cosmetic treatments such as facial fillers are rapidly
rising in popularity and becoming more mainstream. The numbers tell the story.
In 2002 there were 157,000 non-surgical cosmetic procedures in Canada alone,
and in 2005, that number jumped to 507,000 - a 223 per cent growth over three
"For years, we've used technology to see what our clients would look like
with a new hair color, or what our walls would look like with a different
shade of paint. Now we're offering women an opportunity to see what they might
look like with fewer facial lines or enhanced features that look true to life
and natural. Best of all, it is also commitment free," says Dr. Weksberg.
For those who are considering facial fillers, research shows that while
women may want to lose their facial lines or enhance their features, they're
also just as concerned that the treatments will result in an unnatural
appearance. A recent survey for example, showed that natural-looking results
topped the list of desired outcomes for Canadian women when considering facial
treatments or procedures (68 per cent).(2) Now with The Juvéderm(TM)
Revitalizer, people who are considering treatments can see what they can look
like with Juvéderm(TM).
Juvéderm, a next generation facial filler, was launched earlier this year
by Allergan Canada Inc.. It is a soft, replenishing injectable gel made from
hyaluronic acid, a naturally occurring sugar found in your body. Juvéderm adds
volume to minimize the appearance of wrinkles, thinning skin and lips.
Hyaluronic acid injections have been shown to stimulate collagen production
and produce instant and natural looking results without requiring any
downtime. It has also been demonstrated to be safe for all skin tones.
Most recently, Juvéderm was approved by the FDA as a product that
demonstrated effects that may last for up to one year, which is longer than
the results reported in clinical studies of other hyaluronic acid facial
"I think facial fillers are in such great demand because they are a
quick, easy and natural-looking way for people to address the effects of aging
or to enhance their natural beauty," says Dr. Weksberg. "People don't want
drastic changes, they still want to look like themselves, just a better and
more refreshed version. Juvéderm is a great choice because results are so
natural-looking that others think my clients have just come back from a week
The Juvéderm Revitalizer is based on ModiFace technology Inc., created by
Dr. Parham Aarabi, the head of the University of Toronto's Artificial
Perception Laboratory. Allergan Inc. has partnered with ModiFace to provide
this technology as a valuable, practical service for those considering the
Juvéderm facial filler. ModiFace Inc. is a Canadian innovation that was
launched earlier this year. It is the result of over a decade of research in
computer vision, face detection, and automatic face analysis.
