Launch of the success@montréal-Industry program - Montréal International underscores the importance of the City of Montréal's new incentives for supporting investment

MONTREAL, Oct. 10 /CNW Telbec/ - Montréal International (MI) applauds the
initiative of the City of Montréal, which today announced the implementation
of new incentives aimed at increasing Montréal's attractiveness, notably by
supporting investment in several high value-added sectors including R&D, head
offices and the release of packaged software.
The success@montréal-Industry program will thus enable property owners
who invest in their industrial facilities to obtain reimbursement of their
property tax increase. According to MI, this announcement is a significant
step toward increased support for investment in research and innovation, two
driving forces of Greater Montréal's knowledge economy and economic
prosperity.
"These incentives will make it possible to strengthen the positioning of
our business environment in the context of the very fierce competition exerted
by other major urban centres in North America, particularly in the United
States. To remain competitive, the Greater Montréal area must equip itself
with the necessary levers to contend with the cumulative offer of the American
states and their municipalities," said Mr. Pierre Brunet, Chairman of the
Board of Montréal International.
Tax incentives are among the many factors taken into consideration by
investors seeking a location. "The City of Montréal's new program, which
enhances Montréal International's toolkit, will help boost the scope and
efficiency of our prospecting activities, not only in the niches in which
Montréal excels, but also in other sectors that rely on creativity, a
characteristic and strength of our region," added Mr. Brunet.
The launch of success@montréal-Industry echoes the recommendations made
by Montréal International as part of the recent consultations of the Task
Force on Tax Assistance for the Resource Regions and the New Economy. At the
time, the organization recommended to the governments the implementation of
targeted, consistent fiscal measures to support the new economy in Greater
Montréal.
