KITCHENER, ON, May 7 /CNW/ - Cancer survivor and seven-time Tour de
France champion Lance Armstrong is returning to southwestern Ontario to offer
cyclists a once in a lifetime opportunity to ride alongside him and unite in
the fight against cancer. On September 12, up to 50 cyclists will take part in
the 2009 Ride with Lance (www.ridewithlance.ca) a cycling fundraising event
benefitting Kitchener-Waterloo's Grand River Hospital and Toronto's Sunnybrook
Health Sciences Centre.
Joining Lance will be the voice of cycling and of the Tour de France,
Phil Liggett. Liggett is arguably the best known and most popular
journalist/TV commentator in the cycling world. Canada's greatest cyclist of
all time, Steve Bauer will also ride and be an important part of the

the scenic roads surrounding the Kitchener Waterloo Region.
Jim Balsillie, Co-CEO of Research In Motion, and host of the Ride with
Lance event was instrumental in bringing Armstrong to Kitchener. "It's an
honour to have Lance in Ontario and partnering with two great hospitals to
fight cancer," said Balsillie. "It speaks volumes about the world class care
and the professionals associated with Grand River and Sunnybrook that Lance is
returning so soon after his 2008 visit to assist with this cause."
David Fedy, a local Kitchener lawyer, cyclist, and chair of the 2009 Ride
with Lance committee commented, "Lance was elated with last year's visit and
is looking forward to coming back in September following his return to the
Tour de France to help out and ride again."
On Saturday, September 12, the fundraising ride led by Lance will be
followed by a team dinner celebrating the Ride with Lance achievements on and
off the road by the participants.
To participate in the Ride with Lance, riders will have to fundraise or
donate a minimum of $20,000. Money raised through the Ride with Lance will
support cancer care and research at both hospitals.
