WELLAND, ON, Aug. 10 /CNW/ - Lakeside Steel Inc. (TSX-V: LS) (the
"Company") announced that, effective today, it has re-hired and promoted Ron
Bedard to the position of President and Chief Operating Officer. Mr. Bedard
was the Vice President Operations, Maintenance and Engineering of Lakeside
Steel Corp., the Company's wholly-owned subsidiary. On July 17, 2009, the
Company announced the resignation of Mr. Bedard and during the intervening
period engaged in negotiations with Mr. Bedard which successfully concluded
with his rejoining the Company in his new position.
Over ten years with Stelco and, after Stelco was acquired by United
States Steel Corporation, with U.S. Steel Canada (together, "US Steel"), Mr.
Bedard held positions of increasing responsibility at both the Nanticoke and
Hamilton integrated plants. Most recently, Ron was responsible for managing
the primary division in Hamilton including the Coke Plant, Sinter Plant, Blast
Furnace and Steelmaking facilities at US Steel.
Ron's previous experience will be particularly beneficial in connection
with the Company's recently announced application to the Federal Court to seek
intervener status in the hearing involving US Steel. On August 5, the Company
announced that it was seeking intervenor status with a view to acquiring the
former Stelco assets from US Steel.
