Lakehead Teachers Ink Tentative Deal with School Board

TORONTO, April 18 /CNW/ - Elementary public school teachers, members of
the Lakehead Elementary Teacher Local of the Elementary Teachers' Federation
of Ontario (ETFO), reached a tentative agreement with the Lakehead District
School Board last night following a lengthy bargaining session.
Lakehead is the fourth teacher local in Ontario to reach a tentative
four-year deal. It is also the first local to sign an agreement with a
northern Ontario English-language public district school board. Lakehead
occasional teachers reached a tentative deal with the school board earlier
this month.
"This is a good settlement. It provides better working conditions for our
members which translate into better learning conditions for all elementary
students," said ETFO President David Clegg.
"I'm proud of our negotiation team. They worked diligently to get a deal
that addresses the concerns of our membership," said Ellen Chambers Picard,
President of the ETFO Lakehead Teacher Local.
Details of the agreement will be available following a ratification vote
later this month.
The Lakehead Elementary Teacher Local represents approximately 380
elementary teachers. Their contract expired August 31, 2008.

The Elementary Teachers' Federation of Ontario represents 73,000
elementary public school teachers and education workers across the province
and is the largest teacher federation in Canada.
