Actions by the Syndicat des cols bleus will unfortunately penalize
MONTREAL, Nov. 26 /CNW Telbec/ - The Société du parc Jean-Drapeau (SPJD)
believes that the Syndicat des cols bleus regroupés de Montréal (SCFP, Local
section 301) is aiming at the wrong target by threatening to disturb
activities at the Fête des Neiges de Montréal, Montreal's premier family
winter festival. Unfortunately, these actions will mainly penalize children.
"We are counting on our employees' good judgment so that children aren't
deprived of an event that they cherish," said Kevin Donnelly, spokesperson for
the SPJD. "Despite these threats, we are moving forward with preparations to
ensure that this annual event takes place successfully in order to allow many
families and school children to enjoy the festivities."
The SPJD will keep everyone informed via the media and through its web
site at www.parcjeandrapeau.com if ever the union's pressure tactics comprise
the Fête des Neiges' being held.
Moreover, the SPJD welcomes the union wishes "to accelerate negotiations"
and points out that it still hasn't received a response to its overall offer,
made last August. "We are willing to jump start negotiations to reach an
agreement that will meet both our employees' demands as well as the SPJD's
capacity to pay," stated Mr. Donnelly.
Société du parc Jean-Drapeau has a mandate to manage and develop Parc
Jean-Drapeau, maintain relations with partners, conserve, protect and develop
green and blue spaces, and maintain and preserve buildings, equipment and
public works of art. SPJD is managed by a seven-member board of directors
representing primarily the business community.
