Kraft Hockeyville 2009 - Quebec is asked to vote! - The city of Thetford Mines invites the Province of Quebec to support its campaign

THETFORD MINES, QC, Feb. 26 /CNW Telbec/ - While five Canadian cities are
finalists in the race for obtaining the title of Kraft Hockeyville 2009,
Thetford Mines calls on all Quebeckers for support and to preserve the title
of Kraft Hockeyville in Quebec.
Thetford Mines has already received numerous unconditional supports up to
now and the most significant of which came from mayors of the Ice Village
Jacques Dion, and the City of Roberval, Michel Larouche. The city of Roberval
received the title of Kraft Hockeyville last year thanks to its Ice Village
and the mayors Dion and Larouche support Thetford Mines to preserve this title
envied everywhere in Canada.
Thetford Mines wants to share this pride with all Quebeckers by winning
the title of Kraft Hockeyville in 2009. They thus invite all the population of
Quebec to vote numerous times for Thetford Mines and to ask friends and family
to do so. The voting period begins on February 28th at 11pm and will continue
until March 4th at midnight. Visit www.gohockeyville.com to know everything!
Just as the Montreal Canadians who are celebrating their 100th
anniversary, Thetford Mines possesses a real hockey tradition. Early in the
last century, the mining companies had their own hockey teams and in certain
cases, their ice rink to and thus developed employee loyalty and created a
sense of belonging. This tradition continued in the 40s with Robert Bob
Fillion, a Thetford resident whose name is on the Stanley Cup twice. From the
middle of the 60s, began a period during which Thetford Mines was constantly
represented in various competitive leagues.
Support shown for Thetford Mines has started across Quebec, coming from
local and regional medias as well as from various companies. Numerous company
owners have invited their employees to vote during work. Banners, posters,
messages on announcement boards convey the message. In this year of
celebration for the 100th anniversary of hockey in Quebec, the title of
Hockeyville has to remain in Quebec!
