MISSISSAUGA, ON, Jan. 15 /CNW/ - The eagerly awaited 2010 Kia Soul urban
crossover passenger car was unveiled today by Kia Canada Inc. at the Montreal
International Auto Show today. Destined to appeal to a whole new group of
Canadian consumers, the Soul will challenge consumers to change the way they
think about Kia. Also on display in Montreal were the new Soul Hybrid, and the
KOUP concept vehicles.

For the Canadian market, the Kia Soul will be available with a base 1.6
litre four cylinder gasoline engine developing 122 horsepower, or a 2-litre,
142 horsepower gasoline engine. All Kia Soul 2.0 litre cars will be fitted
with four wheel disc brakes, with ABS (Anti-lock Braking System) and ESC
(Electronic Stability Control) as standard equipment.
Available in Canadian dealerships in February 2009, every new Soul will
have many accessories to choose from, making it easy to personalize and
allowing the driver to express themselves and their lifestyle. With a variety
of eye catching colours, interior and wheel combinations, the new Soul offers
a way to stand out in a crowd.
All Kia Soul vehicles sold in Canada will be equipped with a factory-fit
radio/CD player with MP3 compatibility. An optional Upgraded Sound System -
complete with 'Sound Sensitive Mood Lighting', 315-watt output, a large
dash-top centre speaker, external amplifier and a sub-woofer in the trunk for
a total of eight speakers - can be specified.
The Soul will be available in several trim levels, starting with the base
1.6 litre model with manual transmission. It will feature six airbags (dual
front, dual front side and dual side curtain airbags), 15 inch wheels, power
locks, windows and mirrors, Bluetooth hands free connectivity, and heated
seats among its full compliment of standard equipment.
The Soul 2.0 litre 2u includes front tweeter speakers, front side fender
integrated turn signals, "Soul" patterned seat cloth, roof rails and keyless
entry with panic button remote, 16 inch wheels and more.
Moving up to the 4u the Soul offers larger 18 inch wheels, leather
wrapped steering wheel, premium audio system and Sirius(R) satellite radio
with three month subscription.
Next on the trim level line is the Soul 4u Retro, offering the
"Houndstooth" beige and black seat pattern and interior colours among its
The top of the line Soul 4u Burner includes a red and black colour scheme
sure to turn heads, and a "Burner" red and black seat pattern. "Wide View"
bumpers and a rear spoiler round out key options the Burner offers.
Soul Hybrid and KOUP Concepts
The latest models in Kia's expanding eco-friendly research and
development and design are the Soul Hybrid and KOUP concept vehicles. The Soul
Hybrid is making its North American premiere in Montreal - complete with a
panoramic powered folding fabric roof.
The Soul Hybrid concept features Kia's Gamma 1.6-litre gasoline engine,
mated to an alternating current (AC) synchronized electric motor and Kia's own
CVT (continuously variable transmission).
Indicative of where Kia's substantial investment in future technologies
and design is going, the Soul Hybrid concept is an indicator of the targets

The KOUP concept features all of the standard safety features offered in
Kia's regular production vehicle lineup including six standard airbags and a
Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS). Electronic Stability Control (ESC)
paired with CDC helps to stabilize the KOUP for maximum contact with the
pavement. The large 245/40ZR19 tires complete the KOUP's impressive package.
Also included is adaptive front lighting and cruise control, adding to the
KOUP's advanced safety technology.
