KELOWNA, BC, Nov. 2 /CNW/ - A Kelowna-based land and real estate
development company known for its commitment to community enhancement and
environmental sustainability is set to embark on the first comprehensive
lakeshore community of its kind in the Okanagan.
Troika Developments will soon begin work on West Harbour, an upscale
lakeshore community of 1,500 homes on the west side of Okanagan Lake across
from downtown Kelowna.
This unique development will include a mix of spacious town homes,
mid-rise residences and sky homes; each with a view of the lake and unlimited
access to an unprecedented range of services and amenities designed to create
the exclusive, relaxed ambience of a luxury resort in an intimate-feeling
"One of our primary goals with West Harbour is to create a true sense of
community," says Renee Wasylyk, CEO of Troika Developments. "By taking
advantage of the natural features of the land, incorporating lots of inviting
outdoor spaces and designing walkways and roads exclusively for pedestrians
and cyclists, we're hoping to encourage residents to spend time outside
getting to know their neighbours and enjoying what the Okanagan has to offer."
Half of the 45-acre site will be preserved as parks and open space. The
rest will be developed around a naturally-occurring, central bowl which will
be transformed into an open air amphitheatre to serve as a community gathering
place and venue for performances and events in the summer. As the seasons
turn, the amphitheatre will serve as an outdoor skating area.
Everything from the layout and design of the site and services to the
classic, Tuscan-influenced architecture is designed to create the charming,
old world feel of a quaint village in a sophisticated urban resort setting.
The community will include a main street, village centre and extensive
underground parking. Amenities include pools, tennis and volleyball courts,
restaurants and other businesses, an activity centre, boat slips and a first
for Kelowna - a water taxi service to the city's downtown.
In terms of construction, Troika believes West Harbour will set a new
standard for the use of Green building technologies.
"West Harbour will include an onsite geothermal utility for heating and
cooling," points out Wasylyk. "We're also looking at community grey water
recycling and a host of other options that will allow us to create energy
efficiencies and reduce the project's environmental footprint as much as
Troika Developments is a progressive, future-focused company that brings
