TORONTO, April 1 /CNW/ - Public elementary occasional teachers, members
of the Kawartha Pine Ridge Occasional Teacher Local of the Elementary
Teachers' Federation of Ontario (ETFO), ratified a tentative collective
agreement yesterday evening.
"Improved working conditions, better compensation and benefits, and
improved access to daily and long term occasional teaching assignments are all
here in this new collective agreement," said ETFO President David Clegg.
"Occasional teachers are fully qualified teachers certified by the
College of Teachers. This agreement recognizes the experiences and
qualifications that our members bring to classrooms every day. The Kawartha
Pine Ridge District School Board has shown in clear language that it values
the skills and commitment of occasional teachers by agreeing to improve both
salary and working conditions," Clegg said.
"This takeover team has negotiated excellent working conditions for my
membership. The provincial framework agreement gave us the ability to
negotiate these improvements and my colleagues made sure that we did," said
Marsha Jones, President of the ETFO Kawartha Pine Ridge Occasional Teacher
The Kawartha Pine Ridge Occasional Teacher Local represents 590 public
elementary occasional teachers. Their contract expired August 31, 2008.
