TORONTO, May 1 /CNW/ - Elementary public school teachers, members of the
Kawartha Pine Ridge, Near North, and Ottawa-Carleton elementary teacher Locals
of the Elementary Teachers' Federation of Ontario (ETFO), ratified new
collective agreements yesterday evening.
"Last night's votes mean there are now four-year collective agreements in
place for 4,500 more elementary public school teachers. Bargaining was
challenging in all of these areas, but both sides were able to reach a deal in
each board," said ETFO President David Clegg.
"These are all important settlements. Every ratification is an
endorsement of our campaign to improve working conditions for elementary
public school teachers. Each contract settled last night also means there will
be improved learning conditions for students along with peace and stability
for the local community," Clegg said.
The Kawartha Pine Ridge Teacher Local represents 1,200 elementary
teachers, the Near North Teacher Local represents 500 elementary teachers, and
the Ottawa-Carleton Teacher Local represents 2,800 elementary teachers.
The Elementary Teachers' Federation of Ontario represents 73,000
elementary public school teachers and education workers across the province
and is the largest teacher federation in Canada.
