Kangaroo inks three-year deal to leverage reach of powerful German
marketer and distributor
MIRABEL, Canada and MUNICH, Germany, April 7 /CNW Telbec/ - Though it is
still early days in the 2009 Formula One Championship, Kangaroo TV announces
that it has signed a key marketing and distribution agreement with MM
MerchandisingMedia, a wholly-owned subsidiary of German media conglomerate
ProSiebenSat 1 that specialises in sports marketing and merchandising.
For Kangaroo, this agreement is a key component of its strategy to
develop and grow the F1 property: it gains a powerful marketing and
distribution arm for its wireless devices and related services in order to
increase its reach and drive greater revenue at all Formula One events
worldwide for the next three years. And it does so, with a company that
already has strong marketing relationships in the sport. As an exclusive
marketing and distribution partner, MM Merchandising Media has agreed to a
variety of performance clauses such as sales targets and guaranteed yearly
With this marketing and distribution agreement in hand, Kangaroo TV will
now focus its energies and resources on further developing and enriching its
unique F1 fan experience proposition, while also remaining the Formula One
Administration rights holder responsible for the content rich wireless
broadcast. MM MerchandisingMedia will have responsibility for marketing and
commercializing the Kangaroo TV handsets using its extensive and effective
global distribution channels. Those channels include strong and direct access
to eight key European F1 markets. As well, Kangaroo TV will benefit from a
marketing and distribution partner, who is very familiar with Formula One
where it currently represents other prestigious global brands, and who can
quickly transition into and ramp up its F1 business.
"Over the past year, Kangaroo has been building momentum within its
sports properties, through great execution with teams and sponsors. One key
area we wanted to improve on was distribution, especially to get better and
faster access to the market at each F1 event. We looked long and hard for the
best possible distribution partner and MM MerchandisingMedia stood out, based
on their performance record." said Robert Mimeault, CEO of Kangaroo Media. "So
for us to partner with a global marketing and distribution company like them
fits perfectly with our desire to maximise the potential of our property
rights and to focus more on our core competency, the fan experience."
"We have closely followed the Kangaroo TV phenomenon in Formula One for
quite some time. As a media conglomerate with a fast growing distribution and
merchandising component, we felt Kangaroo TV was very complementary to our
current product and service portfolio," said Sabine Eckhardt, Managing
Director of MM MerchandisingMedia. "This great opportunity and the chemistry
between our management teams contributed to our final decision. We are
convinced we can grow this business significantly and successfully, even in
the current economic environment.
