Judith Woodsworth considered preferred candidate for Concordia University President

MONTREAL, Feb. 13 /CNW Telbec/ - Concordia University is pleased to
announce that Dr. Judith Woodsworth will be presented to the Concordia
community on February 25, 2008, during an open meeting of the Board of
Governors and Senate, as the preferred candidate for President and
Vice-Chancellor. The meeting will take place in the D.B. Clarke Theatre (Henry
F. Hall Building, basement level, 1455 De Maisonneuve Blvd. West) at 12 p.m.
This is the first public step in the search process for Concordia's new
president. Following the meeting, the community will be invited to submit
comments to the Search Committee, which will then make its recommendation on
Woodsworth's appointment to the members of the Board of Governors at its
February 29 meeting. At that meeting, the governors will make the final
decision.
"The committee approached the process with diligence, researching and
interviewing a number of highly qualified candidates," said Board Chairman
Peter Kruyt. "They were particularly impressed with Dr. Woodsworth's track
record at Laurentian leading with a clear vision and strategic approach to
university administration and believe she can make a significant contribution
to Concordia's immediate and long-term future."

No stranger to Concordia, Woodsworth spent 17 years at the university in
the Département d'Etudes françaises, including two terms as vice-dean in the
Faculty of Arts and Science. She was the founding president of the Canadian
Association of Translation Studies, and received the Ordre de la Pléiade,
established by the Francophonie, to acknowledge service to the French language
and culture.
With her husband, retired journalism professor Lindsay Crysler, she left
Concordia in 1997 to become vice-president (academic) of Mount Saint Vincent
University, in Halifax, Nova Scotia. She has been president of Laurentian
University, in Sudbury, Ontario since 2002.
