Joseph Elie Ltée - Public statement - Response to Sûreté du Québec announcement



    MONTREAL, March 28 /CNW Telbec/ - Earlier today it was announced by the
Sûreté du Québec that two of the independent carriers under contract to
deliver Home Heating Fuel destined to Joseph Elie Ltée customers were charged
with illegal activities, including theft.
    At Joseph Elie Ltée, we have worked hard to serve the people of Montreal
with dedication and integrity for more than 100 years. We've built our
business on honour and a commitment to superior customer service. We expect
nothing less than the same high level of integrity from anyone who is involved
in doing business with us. Today's news is therefore truly disappointing.
Please be assured that we will take swift and immediate action.
    We are committed to our customers and will ensure they are treated fairly
and continue to be served. To that end, I've drawn on our management team to
determine the true impact of this investigation. We have terminated the
contracts with the independent contracted carriers facing charges and have
arranged for alternative carriers to maintain deliveries of Home Heating Fuel.
    We will spare no effort to maintain our processes and systems from top to
bottom. While we have always ensured that our distribution processes met or
exceeded standards set out by Measurement Canada.
    We will continue to work with the Sûreté du Québec and the regulators as
they continue their investigation to provide any information required to move
forward.
    We appreciate that these events will cause many of our customers to be
concerned. Our commitment to you is that Joseph Elie Ltée will work harder
than ever to demonstrate its ongoing commitment to all of its customers so
that we can continue to meet your expectations.
