Joint investigation results in seizure of Contraband Liquor from boat in St. Clair River



    SARNIA, ON, Aug. 14 /CNW/ - A joint investigation conducted by London
RCMP Detachment members operating from the Sarnia Storefront location, has led
to the seizure of 30 cases of smuggled liquor.
    While on marine patrol, RCMP received a tip from the U.S. authorities
that two male subjects were observed loading a number of cases of liquor into
vessels on the U.S. shoreline. RCMP alerted Canada Customs and the Walpole
Island Police who assisted with the investigation. One of the vessels was
located by RCMP and Walpole Island Police in the waterway near Walpole Island.
    After an attempt to flee, the RCMP stopped the vessel and apprehended one
suspect.
    Charged is the vessel operator, a 38 year old male resident of Walpole
Island, Lambton County, Ontario faces charges under the Excise Act. The RCMP
have seized the boat and the accused will appear in court at a later date.
Police learned that the accused was also wanted by police in Kettle Point for
an outstanding warrant. The accused has been turned over to the Kettle Point
police.
