Jesmond Dubeau Soars over Competition as Red Bull Crystal Illuminates Mont Tremblant

Jesmond Dubeau takes home $10,000 and title of best all-around rider
after beating 24 riders in head-to-head battle

    MONT TREMBLANT, QC, March 1 /CNW Telbec/ - Mammoth 25-foot drops mixed
with an equally steep landing zone gave 24 of today's top snowboarders the
ultimate platform tonight to show fans and judges alike that they've got huge
skills and bravery to burn. Featuring a head-to-head format, Red Bull Crystal
saw one competitor advance per heat until there was only one glacial rider
standing - North Bay-native and Whistler resident Jesmond Dubeau, who dropped
a perfect Backside 7 to defeat Yan Devo of Whistler, British-Colombia,
14-year-old wunderkind Harrison Gray of Newmarket, Ontario, and Nick Barbe of
Montreal in the final to take home $10,000 and a little piece of Red Bull
Crystal.
"This feels unreal, I've been building to win a major contest for a while
and now I've done it in an insane setting," said Dubeau. "First time I saw the
set-up I thought it was too huge, but by the finals I had a huge smile on my
face and I stomped my seven. Rest is history, I'll definitely be back next
year."
A freestyle snowboard competition, Red Bull Crystal brought the natural
drops of backcountry into a light/rock/park environment - and the best riders
from both worlds to one event. The innovative course design was built and
lived up to the challenge, thrilling riders and fans alike with two 20-foot
drops - one a rail and the other a box - book-ending a massive 25-foot jump. A
giant screen was embedded into the base of the jump to give fans a visual
teaser to the riders' descent before they watched the real live thing soar
over one of the three features into a landing zone with gaps of 30 to 70 feet.
Action on, the riders were next eyeing a second man-made glacier near the
bottom of the hill featuring a final rail module, and a last chance to impress
the judges.
In addition to the 10G payout to winner Dubeau, second-place finisher
Devo, tied for third-place Gray and Barbe, and fifth-place Jeremy took home
$5000, $2000, $2000 and $1000 respectively.
