CANNINGTON, ON, Feb. 9 /CNW/ - The 5th annual Cannington Dog Sled Races &
Winter Festival rapidly approaches with renewed anticipation with the
announcement that Damion Robb and the Jamaican Dog Sled Team will be joining
this year's event. Over 70 competitors from across North America will be
competing with the Jamaicans for the $10,000 purse in what is becoming one of
the most competitive events of the season. With a sled load of his Canadian
fans in the GTA region, Damion loves the fact that this event is within an
hour's drive of Toronto and hopes many of his supporters will be in
"These really are the dog days of winter!" says Ben Deith, Chair of the
race committee. "And one of the best ways for families to get through it is to
embrace it with fun-filled events such as ours. Last year's festival made huge
strides forward both in attendance and participant activities and this year
will be no different".
A number of terrific bands and performers will be on stage during the
event and there will be several new activities for the kids. "The crowd
favourites like the toilet seat toss, face painting, grapefruit sling, Magoo
the Clown and dog sled rides, etc will still be there because the kids love
them. And after all, it's all about kids and dogs and dogs and kids."
Chomp on some jerk chicken, bison burger or chow down on some of the wide
array of offerings from one of the many vendors in attendance...and just try
to control the excitement as race starter Jim Cunningham begins the countdown
and the dogs begin to howl!
Weekend passes for adults are $8 at the gate and children 13 and under
are just $2 (or free with a button from participating elementary schools). For
