LONDON, ON, Jan. 21 /CNW/ - CMA Canada, the world leader in shaping
strategic management accounting professionals to lead successful enterprises
in the global marketplace has awarded, for a five-year period, the
accreditation of the Bachelor of Arts in Honors Business Administration (HBA)
Program at the Richard Ivey School of Business, The University of Western
CMA Canada accredits programs at leading universities which provide
complete coverage of the CMA Competency Map Entrance Requirements, equipping
students with in-depth knowledge and skills in management accounting,
financial accounting, financial management and taxation, strategic management,
and risk management and governance. These skills are required for mastering
the advanced concepts covered in CMA Canada's Strategic Leadership Program,
leading to the prestigious CMA designation.
Beginning in 2000, CMA Canada implemented an accreditation process to
recognize institutions that offer quality educational programs according to
prescribed standards. Accreditation by CMA Canada offers universities a
measurement process that is based on self-evaluation and peer review, coupled
with external evaluation by CMA Canada. "The accreditation of Ivey's Honors
Business Administration Program demonstrates the university's ability to meet
the strict accreditation requirements set out by CMA Canada," said Steve
Vieweg, MBA, CMA, FCMA, President and CEO of CMA Canada. "The school offers
innovative approaches to course design and delivery, supported by exceptional
faculty resources, and a clear commitment to top-notch education."
Vieweg confirmed that the Richard Ivey School of Business is among an
exclusive group of universities across Canada to have an undergraduate
accounting program accredited by CMA Canada.
"For Ivey's HBA students to be exempted from the CMA Entrance Examination
speaks to the rigorous nature of Ivey's standards and is a competitive
advantage for our students. The CMA's Strategic Leadership program is a
natural fit for our students, one in which I know our students will thrive,"
said Carol Stephenson, Dean, Richard Ivey School of Business.
Students who successfully complete the BA in Honors Business
Administration with a focus in Accounting with a minimum grade point average
of 75 per cent are exempt from writing the CMA Entrance Examination. This
select group of students will enter directly into the Strategic Leadership
Program, the last step required to obtain the CMA designation.
"Our partnership with the Richard Ivey School of Business, and more
specifically the HBA degree program, is a perfect fit. Ivey's HBA students are
immersed in cross-enterprise leadership. Career management and networking are
top of mind with Ivey HBA students. The depth of learning and skills acquired
through the CMA designation and Ivey HBA degree will speak volumes to
prospective employers and will pave the way for this next generation of young
professionals to find innovative solutions to the many challenges in today's
marketplace," said Merv Hillier, MBA, CMA, FCMA, President and CEO, CMA
Vieweg emphasized that CMA Canada accreditation of programs at leading
universities sets the standard for quality education in business and
accounting in Canada, "The Richard Ivey School of Business exemplifies this
standard, and is to be commended for the outstanding quality of its
instruction and its graduates."
