    TORONTO, Sept. 10 /CNW/ - Canada's got a new Top 10 hit! Glee, the most
talked about show this fall, made its much anticipated debut last night on
Global - and what a debut it was. Having already received an onslaught of
critical acclaim, the broadcast not only met, but greatly exceeded
expectations as over 1.7 million Canadian fans tuned in, with nearly 4 million
viewers tuning in at some point during the broadcast.
    In fact, Glee is now on record as the highest rated premiere of any new
series on Canadian television in the past year.
    "Glee is the hit we knew it would be," said Barbara Williams, EVP,
Content, Canwest Broadcasting. "Canadians have embraced this delightful show,
and its success is a testament to the fact that great TV is what resonates
with viewers, and that is what Global delivers week after week."

    
    GLEE SERIES PREMIERE DATA HIGHLIGHTS:

    -   937,000 viewers in the key demo Adults 18-49 nationally
    -   Won the timeslot in all three markets
    -   Won the night for the key demo A18-49 in the two biggest markets,
        Toronto & Vancouver, while in Calgary, Glee's series debut came
        second only to another Global hit show, Wipeout
    -   Out performed the highest rated show on each of the competitive
        networks in total viewers nationally, beating CTV's Top Model 2-hour
        premiere by 60%; CBC's Dragons Den by 80%; CityTV's According to Jim
        by 540%
    -   The fan frenzy continued online at GlobalTV.com as views of the pilot
        episode quadrupled the daily average, peaking by 60% hour over hour
        after the broadcast of the series premiere(xx)
