It Pays to be Loyal - Longo's says Thank You with Grocery Giveaway



    TORONTO, April 8 /CNW/ - As part of its on-going consumer recognition
efforts, Longo's will be rewarding close to 500 of its loyal customers with
free groceries during the month of April. With continuing pressure from an
ailing economy, Longo's recognizes that consumers are looking for ways to
stretch their hard earned dollars and add value whenever possible.
    Research shows that Canadians are protecting their wallets by taking
advantage of loyalty programs offered by their preferred retailers. These
programs have gained immense popularity in the past fifteen years. It is
reported that 9 out of 10 Canadians participate in a loyalty program.
According to a recent consumer marketing study, Canadians enjoy rich and
diverse loyalty benefits and are more likely to enjoy points and rewards
programs that yield free in-store merchandise or free reward redemptions.
    Longo's designed their Thank You program by reaching out to their
customers to get a better understanding of what they need and as a result
offer cash back savings, coupons and free offers. "As a retailer, the purpose
of a loyalty promotion from our perspective is twofold - 1) to really get to
know our best customers and 2) to reward those customers for their shopping
loyalty," says Rosanne Longo, Longo's Spokeswoman, "Our Thank You program
provides us with a vehicle to communicate with our customers one-on-one. It
also lets us surprise and reward them for their loyalty."
    During the month of April, Longo's Thank You card members are eligible to
win the value of their purchases through their "Swipe to Win" contest. With
one random Thank You card winner each day at each of Longo's 17 GTA locations,
close to five hundred winners will receive their groceries for free just by
swiping their card upon check out.
    It has become clear that tough times call for smart measures. "On our
part, we try to keep the Thank You card offers interesting for our customers
by changing the offers on a regular basis to try to meet the varying needs of
our top customers," says Longo.
    Longo's rolled out their Thank You program in fall 2008 and enrolment has
since surpassed company projections. "We know that customers vote with their
dollars and the feedback from our Thank You program has been very positive,"
says Longo.
