CALGARY, ALBERTA, September 4 /CNW/ - iStockphoto, the world's busiest
image market, has announced the seven winners in its first Punctum Day awards.
'Punctum' refers to a profound reaction an excellent image creates. The
finalists were shortlisted by the two million-strong iStock community, and a
panel of guest judges selected the winners, who hail from six different
countries. The Photo of the Year, "Lettucehead," is a creation by Byll
Williams (Byllwill) of Santa Monica, Calif., and showcases the innovation and
vision of iStockphoto's contributors.
Asked what influenced his creativity, Williams explained, "Creative
passion is a path in the woods. If you do not take time to walk the path every
day, pretty soon there will be no path at all."
The 50 finalists for five of the categories were selected from over one
million photos, vectors, videos, Flash Files, and design submissions. The
judging panel selecting the winners included John Rees, a household name in
photography and design, Jeff Howe, the guru of crowdsourcing and contributing
editor of Wired magazine, and Scott Kelby, the editor of Photoshop User
Magazine, best-selling author, and professional photographer and designer.
The winning contributors were:
