MONTREAL, June 4 /CNW Telbec/ - Dermatologists today agree that UVA rays
are responsible for irreversible sun damage including pre-mature skin aging,
pigmentation spots and skin cancer. But did you know that in Canada there is
no approved method of measuring and regulating UVA protection? Consequently
any sunscreen can claim "broad-spectrum UVA-UVB protection," even if the
protection is minimal and unstable, and today 1 in 62 people in North America
will be diagnosed with melanoma in their lifetime.
So how do you effectively protect yourself under the sun? Over the next
two weeks, Vichy Laboratoires is holding FREE events to help educate the
public about the dangers of the sun and how to find adequate sun protection.
From June 4 to 10, the Sun Prevention Centre will have Vichy Sun
Protection Experts on site to determine one's skin phototype and conduct a
free skin analysis using sun diagnostic tools, such as the UV camera (see
images on next page) which detects potential sun damage in the deepest layers
of the skin. Information on Vichy's highly anticipated and newly approved
photostable UVA and UVB sun filter Mexoryl XL will also be presented and
everyone will leave with samples of sun protection cream and after sun care.
The Sun Prevention Centre is now open to the public on the subway level of the
Toronto Eaton Centre.
On June 8, 9 and 10, the Healthy Skin Centre and Vichy Laboratoires
partner with LuminaTO, Toronto's Festival for Arts and Creativity, to
celebrate the diversity of healthy skin! Experts will provide healthy skin
advice and analyze individuals' skin types, hydration levels, UV damage and
sensitivity rating. A Kids Zone will allow children to learn about sun-safety
in a fun and interactive setting: they can help complete a wall-sized sun
mural, as well as participate in a kids coloring station. Finally, renowned
photographer May Truong will create a "Healthy Skin Mosaic" by photographing
individuals' skin up close and transforming the photos into an interactive
piece of art. All participants will receive a free copy by email. Vichy's
Healthy Skin Centre will take place at LuminaTO Harborfront Centre, located at
235 Queens Quay West.
Until June 16, the exclusive Vichy UV Alarm(TM) bracelet is available at
select Shopper Drug Marts. The translucent bracelet (see photo on next page)
is reactive to both UVA and UVB rays and turns purple when exposed to harmful
UV rays, signaling that it is time to protect one's skin. The Vichy UV
Alarm(TM) bracelet is free with a sun consultation at participating Shopper's
Drug Mart stores.
