International organization dedicated to sustainable development and human rights - Institute of Cultural Affairs International moves to Montréal

MONTREAL, June 25 /CNW Telbec/ - In collaboration with Montréal
International (MI), the Institute of Cultural Affairs International (ICAI)
today officially inaugurates its Secretariat, located in the heart of downtown
Montréal. The international organization, previously established in Brussels,
Belgium, encompasses a network of 31 national organizations dedicated to
promoting the role of culture in human development.
"This is an important day for Montréal, Québec and Canada as a whole
because we are welcoming an organization recognized worldwide for its efforts
to reduce poverty, strengthen women's autonomy, stop the spread of HIV-AIDS
and support sustainable agriculture," declared Dave Murphy, Vice President,
International Organizations, at Montréal International. "ICAI thus officially
joins the 70 international organizations already located in Montréal. Each of
them contributes to our region's economic development and international
status," he added.
According to Lambert Okrah, Secretary General of the Institute of
Cultural Affairs International, "relocating the ICA International secretariat
to Montréal represents a bold and important step for the organization as it
continues to build on more than 40 years of grassroots human development work
around the world. Montréal is an exciting, diverse and truly international
city that affords a wealth of opportunities. Its location is also particularly
strategic as ICAI looks to expand its role and influence in development
policy-making internationally".
Mr. Okrah acknowledged the important role of Montréal International in
supporting the relocation, and is excited to join a vibrant and growing
community of organizations in Montréal working in international development.
"We look forward to new opportunities for learning, partnership and
collaboration," he added.

Montréal International's support for ICAI was made possible through the
concerted efforts and financial contribution of its partners: Canadian
Economic Development, the Ministère des Relations internationales du Québec
and the City of Montréal.

ICAI's new offices are located at 555 René-Lévesque Boulevard West, in
Montréal.
