Global technology leader soundly entrenched in Canadian technology sector
MISSISSAUGA, ON, Sept. 25 /CNW/ - Twenty years ago, little known
Korean-based Samsung Electronics opened its first office in Canada as it
worked to grow its brand and expand its sales in Canada. Known originally for
TVs and VCRs, today Samsung is a global leader in semiconductor,
telecommunication, digital media and digital convergence technologies,
recognized for fusing the latest technology with cutting edge designs.
"Our 20th anniversary in Canada is a milestone that reminds us of the
progress we have made within the Canadian marketplace," says Benjamin Lee,
President and C.E.O, Samsung Electronics Canada. "Samsung Electronics provides
full home solutions for the consumer, including products for the office,
kitchen, laundry room and den. Our company has introduced many technological
firsts and has consistently provided Canadians with premium home solutions. We
look forward to continuing this trend for many years to come."
Established in 1987, Samsung Electronics Canada has emerged as a market
leader by offering innovative consumer electronics that address the needs of
Canadian consumers. While the company has stayed true to its consumer
electronics roots offering a wide range of HDTVs, camcorders and portable
media players, Samsung has expanded into other technology sectors.
The company's Wireless division researches, markets and develops wireless
handsets throughout Canada. A leader in IT peripherals, Samsung is a leader in
flat panel monitors, storage drives, and printers, recently launching the
world's smallest and lightest laser printers. Samsung Canada re-launched its
Home Appliance division one year ago, offering state-of-the-art kitchen and
laundry appliances including its innovative SilverCare line in which silver
particles added to the wash water remove 99 per cent of bacteria from clothing
and other items.
"While being the first to introduce new technologies is one of the keys
to our growth and success, it's equally important that we get involved in the
communities where we do business," adds Lee. "Along with hiring the best local
talents, we also ensure that we are actively participating in the communities
in which we do business through sponsorships and charitable donations."
Samsung Canada is doing its part to ensure that Canada's national
obsession continues to thrive. The company is a major sponsor of Hockey
Canada, and has supported Canadian NHL franchises. Through its North American
Four Seasons of Hope program, Samsung partners with sports legends, and
celebrities to help raise money for their respective charities. In Canada, the
company has partnered with the Wayne Gretzky Foundation, helping the Great One
raise funds that ensure hockey is accessible to every child in Canada.
Globally, Samsung has been a proud sponsor of the Olympic Games since the
1988 Olympic Games in Seoul and a global presenting partner of the Olympic
Torch Relay since the ATHENS 2004 Olympic Games. Samsung is proud of its
continuous contribution to the Olympic Movement and commitment to responsible
corporate citizenship and global friendship as The Olympic Partner (TOP) and a
Presenting Partner for the Beijing 2008 Olympic Torch Relay. Currently,
Samsung Canada is running a contest in which three Canadians will win a
once-in-a-lifetime experience to carry the Olympic flame in China next spring.
