Inaugural Mercedes-Benz 10k Shifts Into Another Gear



    OAKVILLE, ON, Feb. 18 /CNW/ - While Canadian 10k races average just 300
participants in their first year, the excitement behind the inaugural
Mercedes-Benz 10k is off to a very brisk start. Still nearly three months
before race day, the Mercedes-Benz 10k have confirmed participation of more
than 250 in the initial few weeks of registration. That momentum will soon be
kicked into the next gear with the addition of the race's Presenting Sponsor -
New Balance.
    Signed to a three year deal, New Balance will play a key role in building
awareness of the race with their customers and shoppers of their Oakville and
west Toronto retail stores.
    "As perhaps the most unique 10k in the country and one of Greater
Toronto's only 10k races west of Yonge Street, we're very excited to join the
Mercedes-Benz 10k as Presenting Sponsor", said New Balance Toronto and
Oakville retail owner, Sean McGrath. "Oakville has long been known to be one
of the premier running markets in Canada and our alignment with this race is a
natural. As we build our presence in Oakville for the long-term, we're excited
to support the Oakville running and power-walking community and in the
process, support the good work of the United Way", said McGrath.

    Starting and finishing on the sprawling park like campus of Appleby
College, the Mercedes-Benz 10k is the only race in the country that will give
away a new car to a finisher of the 10 kilometer course. Where most races will
award the grand prize to the first-place finisher, at the Mercedes-Benz 10k,
everyone who crosses the finish line has an equal chance to win a new 2009
