REGINA, April 21 /CNW/ - Don Hoium, Director of Education for the Regina
Public School Division, and Maura Davies, President and CEO of the Saskatoon
Health Region, have been appointed to the Board of Saskatchewan's Health
The appointments by the province fill vacancies left by Dan Florizone,
who is now Deputy Minister of Health, and John Conway, who has moved out of
province. Cabinet also approved reappointment of those board members whose
terms had expired.
Hoium has been at the helm of Regina Public Schools since 2007. Before
that he was the Division's Superintendant of School Administrative Services.
He has extensive experience designing and implementing improvement and
accountability programs in education. As an executive director at Saskatchewan
Learning, Hoium oversaw the provincial education indicators program and the
development of the Continous Improvement Framework, the sector's

Health Quality Council to promote improvement and build a better health care
system for Saskatchewan people," says Don Hoium. "I look forward to bringing
my experience with human service accountability and continuous improvement
systems to the work of the Council."
Prior to coming to Saskatchewan, Maura Davies was Vice President,
Planning and Performance for Capital Health in Halifax, Nova Scotia. She holds
Bachelor degrees in science and education and a Masters degree in health
services administration. Maura is a Fellow of the Canadian College of Health
Service Executives, a surveyor for Accreditation Canada, and a member of the
board of directors of the Canadian Patient Safety Institute. Davies was chosen
as one of Canada's Most Powerful Women by the Women's Executive Network of
Canada in 2008.

Davies. "Measuring and improving the quality of health care and the care
experience have been my passion throughout my career. I look forward to
working with Council board members and colleagues throughout the province in

HQC's acting Vice Chair, Dr. Dennis Kendel, welcomed the new
appointments. "We are certain to benefit from Don Hoium's experience with
quality improvement in a large system outside of health care," says Kendel.
"Maura Davies too is a great addition to our board, as she is a real leader in
this province's health care system."
The Health Quality Council is an independent agency that works closely
with health regions, providers, and government to accelerate improvement in
Saskatchewan's health care system. HQC is fulfilling this mission by measuring
and reporting on quality, building leadership and capability for improvement,
engaging providers, and informing health policy.
