Four-year deal includes over 600 Multi-Functional Products and a
comprehensive service package.
HALIFAX, Nova Scotia, April 3 /CNW/ -- IKON Office Solutions, Inc., the
world's largest independent channel for copiers, printers and multi- function
technologies, has been awarded a significant contract to supply and service
over 600 MFPs (multi-functional products -- copier, fax, printer and scanner)
to the Nova Scotia School Boards Association (NSSBA) and most school boards
and public schools in Nova Scotia.
IKON was awarded the publicly-tendered contract, valued at $7 million
over four years, by the NSSBA in November 2006 and is now shipping MFPs. The
contract covers the sale and service of over 600 multi-functional units for
elementary, junior high and high schools, school boards and the NSSBA.
"Although IKON is a major player in the North American and European
copier and printer markets, its strength -- beyond affordable, reliable Multi-
Functional Products, printers and related technology -- is an impressive local
presence," said Sean Smith, IKON Office Solutions Inc. Canadian President.
Trained, experienced technical staff in every Nova Scotia school board
district ensures prompt service within the terms of the contract, added Smith.
In addition, IKON service staff carry the most commonly used parts on service
calls, so equipment can generally be made operational onsite on the first
service call, which is critical as many schools only have one MFP.
"While price was an important part of the tender, IKON demonstrated it
could provide a wide variety of reliable MFPs and its ability to service them
effectively and efficiently," said Karen Tavenor, NSSBA Finance and Office Co-
ordinator. "Schools, boards and the NSSBA produce documents for students,
teachers, parents, administrators and the public, so reliable products and
service were essential to the NSSBA."
The tender called for a variety of devices because the volume and type of
copies produced at schools and boards varies by numbers of students and
Service is also an important issue as some schools are located in rural
areas while others are in urban centres. The NSSBA wanted to ensure that all
schools and boards received equal treatment -- a callback to a service request
within four hours and a technician on site by the next day.
The rollout of multi-function devices across the schools and boards that
belong to the NSSBA is well underway, and all is going exceptionally well. "We
are looking forward to a mutually beneficial relationship with IKON," said
In addition to conducting business with the NSSBA, IKON is now giving
back to Nova Scotian students. Through its support of DayTrippers
(www.daytrippers.org), a non-profit children's charity, IKON will help up to
150 Nova Scotia students participate in five field trips in 2007/08.
DayTrippers has helped over 20,000 students in Ontario and Quebec attend field
trips they might not otherwise be able to afford. With IKON's participation,
the program is now expanding into Nova Scotia.
