If no deal today, TD-Canada Trust strike to start Monday

SUDBURY, ON, June 17 /CNW/ - United Steelworkers' (USW) Ontario/Atlantic
Director Wayne Fraser announced today that 112 members of USW Local 2020,
employees of TD-Canada Trust, have voted in favour of strike action, to begin
at 8 a.m. Monday (June 18).
Meetings were scheduled with the bank today (Sunday, June 17) to try and
resolve the impasse.
"Our hope is the bank will now be serious about reaching a fair and
reasonable contract," said Fraser. Our members want to ensure that everyone
gets a wage increase, not just some of the workers."
Wages are just one of the unresolved issues in the dispute, said USW
Staff Representative Jim Kmit.
"TD-Canada Trust makes billions in profits and it's time they shared it
with the people who do the work on the bank's front lines."
Kmit said the union will be available at 8 a.m. Monday at the TD-Canada
Trust branch on Durham Street in downtown Sudbury for a news update.
The TD-Canada Trust employees in Sudbury are among more than 1,000 USW
members in banks, VISA centres and credit unions across Canada.

The USW represents more than 280,000 men and women working in every
sector of Canada's economy.
