IDA Hearing Panel reinstates Gerald Danny Stefaniuk subject to strict supervision

VANCOUVER, March 25 /CNW/ - The Investment Dealers Association of Canada
(IDA) announced today that following an Expedited Review Hearing held on
March 20, 2008 pursuant to By-law 20.47, an IDA Hearing Panel varied a
previous Order made on March 4, 2008.
At an Expedited Hearing on March 4, 2008 a Hearing Panel suspended the
registration of Gerald Danny Stefaniuk indefinitely. Mr. Stefaniuk
subsequently requested an Expedited Review Hearing to review the suspension
Order. At this review hearing on March 20, 2008, the Hearing Panel amended the
Order suspending Mr. Stefaniuk and reinstated him subject to strict
supervision by his Member firm for an indefinite period. Mr. Stefaniuk's
current Member firm is First Canada Capital Partners Inc. in Vancouver.
The full text of the Panel's written reasons will be posted on the IDA
website when they become available.
    Pursuant to IDA By-laws 20.41 and 20.43 (1) (d), a Hearing Panel may hold
an Expedited Hearing without notice to the Respondent and may impose the
penalties set out in By-law 20.45 where an Approved Person has been charged
with a criminal offence relating to theft, fraud, misappropriation of funds or
securities, forgery, money laundering, market manipulation, insider trading,
misrepresentation or unauthorized trading, and such criminal charge likely
brings the capital markets into disrepute. Pursuant to By-laws 20.47 and
20.48, the Respondent may file a written request for review of any decision
made at an Expedited Hearing and the Hearing Panel presiding over the
Expedited Review Hearing may affirm, quash, or vary the previous decision
