Automaker is now fifth largest in Canada by sales volume
MARKHAM, ON, May 3 /CNW/ - After the first four months of 2011, Hyundai
Auto Canada Corp. is the best-selling passenger car brand in Canada
with sales of 28,406 units. Having sold a total of 41,319 light
vehicles year-to-date, the automaker outpaced Honda (including the
Acura brand) by 2,007 units to become the fifth largest in the country
by sales volume.
Thanks to the best month of sales in the nameplate's history, Sonata was
once again the number-one selling model in the intermediate segment in
April. Similarly, Accent continued its two-year streak as the leader of
the subcompact segment, outselling each of its competitors by a factor
of almost two-to-one during the past month. All-time record sales of
Elantra and Elantra Touring have further contributed to the company's
position as an industry leader in passenger car sales.
"As the year progresses, Canadians looking for new ways to reduce their
gasoline expenses are discovering Hyundai," said Steve Kelleher,
President and CEO of Hyundai Canada. "In addition to achieving some of
the best fuel economy scores in the industry, our cars deliver an
unparalleled combination of value, versatility, style, and safety."
Hyundai Auto Canada, established in 1983 and headquartered in Markham
Ontario, is a subsidiary of Hyundai Motor Company of Korea. Hyundai
vehicles are distributed throughout Canada by Hyundai Auto Canada and
