Record-breaking months continue in manufacturer's 25th anniversary year
MARKHAM, ON, Oct. 3 /CNW/ - Strong sales results continued at Hyundai
Auto Canada Corp. for the third quarter of 2008. Record-breaking months were
recorded for the Accent, Sonata and Santa Fe, while year-over-year increases
resulted each month as well. Selling 7,095 vehicles in September, the company
recorded overall third quarter sales of over 22,200 units.
The Accent recorded its best July and August since its launch in 1994.
With over 8,000 units sold in the third quarter alone, the Accent could see
its best year of sales since 2002. Recently named the most-dependable vehicle
in the U.S. in J. D. Powers and Associates 2008 Vehicle Dependability
Study(SM), the Accent's 25th Anniversary pricing starts at $9,995.
The summer months also saw Santa Fe experience its best August on record
with 1,380 vehicles sold, while the Sonata recorded its best September with
over 1,300 units sold.
"With rising gas prices and some uncertain economic times, consumers are
looking for reliability, quality and affordability in new vehicles," said
John Vernile, vice president, sales and marketing, Hyundai Auto Canada Corp.

successful for us, and will continue to be as we introduce more vehicles

Hyundai Q3 Sales highlights:
- Year-to-date sales of 65,434 units, up 9.8 per cent
- Accent posts top-selling July on record with 3,158 units sold, an
increase of more than 110 per cent versus July 2007
- Accent also posts its best August on record with 2,866 units sold,
representing a 66 per cent increase over August 2007
- Santa Fe records its best August on record with 1,380 units sold, an
increase of over 2 per cent compared to August 2007
- Sonata experiences its best September on record with 1,371 units
sold, an increase of more than 23 per cent versus September 2007
- 82 Genesis units are sold in Q3, the brand-new model's first season
- Overall monthly sales increase year-over-year:
- 5.4 per cent sales increase in July 2008 compared to July 2007
- 1.6 per cent sales increase in August 2008 compared to August 2007
- Despite restricted availability of popular models such as Accent,
Elantra and Sonata, September 2008 sees a 0.2 per cent increase
versus September 2007
"Our 25th anniversary year has been a remarkable one," continued Vernile.
"In April, we surpassed all of our previous monthly sales records. Then in
May, we did it again. We sold our one millionth vehicle in March, and we've
got a brand-new performance sedan in our line-up that is attracting a lot of
attention. It's been a great year so far, and we have three more months to
keep demonstrating to Canadians why we're the smart choice when buying their
