TORONTO, Feb. 20 /CNW/ - Hydro One confirms that it has restored power
to more than 50,000 customers affected by the high winds that hit the
province late Friday night. Approximately 2600 customers are without
power, as of Sunday afternoon.
Hydro One crews continue to remove fallen trees from lines, replace
broken poles and re-string damaged sections of line in the
Penetanguishene and Bancroft areas. Helicopters have aided the search
for damage and have delivered crews and equipment to remote locations
to repair damage.
The Company expects that some customers in the hardest hit and remote
areas may be without power until Monday.
The storm system that made its way across parts of the province brought
high and gusting winds and resulted in downed poles, wires, and trees
and saw over 60,000 Hydro One customers lose power at the storm's peak.
Hydro One's highly mobile field staff were deployed to complete the
restoration effort since the onset of the storm.
Important Safety Information
Hydro One strongly urges people to take extra precaution near fallen
power lines. Even if a fallen wire seems dead, it can be dangerous.
People are urged to report to Hydro One the location of the fallen
wires as soon as possible. Touching a vehicle that is in contact with a
power line can be fatal.
