Horwath stands alone promoting dirtiest policy of any party
TORONTO, Sept. 15, 2011 /CNW/ - Andrea Horwath's billion-dollar gas
guzzler giveaway is the dirtiest campaign policy from any party - including the PCs - Liberal MPP Greg Sorbara said today.
"Ontarians expect the PCs to promote dirty air and dirty water, but
Andrea Horwath's billion-dollar gas guzzler giveaway is far and away
this election's dirtiest campaign pledge," said Sorbara. "The NDP is
betraying the health of Ontarians and their party's progressive roots."
The foundation of the NDP dirty plan, the gas guzzler tax cut offers a
$1.25 Billion subsidy to Big Oil with no mechanism to ensure companies
pass savings to consumers.
"Andrea Horwath has changed the NDP beyond recognition," said Sorbara.
"It's no wonder she's getting hammered by critics, including Jack
Layton's former Chief of Staff."
The gas-guzzler plan is facing mounting criticism:
"NDP Leader Andrea Horwath has also shocked environmentalists with a
proposal to reduce the HST on gasoline..."
(Martin Regg Cohn, September 14, 2011)
"The NDP proposal to remove the HST from energy bills is both
economically and environmentally irresponsible. It will encourage
traffic congestion and energy waste, passing on the associated health
and environmental problems to our children."
(Dr. Dana Silk, EnviroCentre)
"Making pollution cheaper for everyone...the NDP and Conservative
promise to hand out exemptions for fossil fuels...it amazes me that
anyone thinks of the NDP as an environmentalist party. "
(Kate Heartfield, Ottawa Citizen, September 8, 2011)
"[Horwath's] existing policy positions are not in the best interest of
environmental or human health protection...This is absolutely the wrong
(Rick Smith, Jack Layton's Former Chief of Staff, Toronto Star, August
"Just like the PCs, Andrea Horwath with take Ontario off track and back
to the days of dirty air and dirty water," concluded Sorbara.
"Only Ontario Liberals have a positive plan to move Ontario forward."
