Honda Canada reports September sales results



    Record sales set by Honda Fit and CR-V, and by Acura MDX

    TORONTO, Oct. 1 /CNW/ - Honda Canada Inc. reported combined September
sales of 14,889 units by its Honda and Acura divisions, a 0.3% increase over
last September. The Honda Automobile Division reported September sales of
12,841 units, down 4% from last year. The Acura Division reported September
sales of 2,048 units, up 34% over last year.
    "In these difficult and unpredictable times, we are pleased to see that
customers are coming to our dealerships and purchasing our products," said
Jerry Chenkin, executive vice president, Honda Canada Inc. "Canadians are
viewing the Honda brand as a safe choice in the marketplace, while many luxury
buyers are turning to Acura, in part, because of the strong resale value that
Acura vehicles represent."

    Honda September sales highlights include:

    
    -  Honda Fit set a September sales record of 1,536 units, up 72% over the
       previous September sales record of 895 units in 2007

    -  Honda CR-V set a September sales record of 1,933 units, up 7% over the
       previous September sales record of 1,805 units in 2007

    -  Honda Pilot sales were up 79% over last year

    -  Honda Element sales were up 36% over last year

    Acura September sales highlights include:

    -  Acura MDX set a September sales record of 797 units, up 73% over the
       previous September sales record of 462 units in 2007

    -  Acura TL sales were up 90% over last year

    -  Acura RL sales were up 27% over last year

    -  Acura TSX sales were up 26% over last year

Canada manufactures the Honda Ridgeline and Civic sedan and coupe, and the

producing engines at its new engine plant in Alliston, with production of
200,000 engines annually.
