Sales Boosted by Record Civic and Fit Sales; Honda Trucks Set Records
TORONTO, June 1 /CNW/ - Honda Canada Inc. reported all-time record May
sales of 18,242 units by its Honda and Acura divisions. The combined Honda and
Acura division sales were up 18 per cent over last year. Honda automobile
division reported record May sales of 16,477 units, up 21 per cent. Honda's
May sales were also an all-time record for any month's sales, surpassing the
previous monthly record of 14,702 set in September 2006. Acura division posted
a 5 per cent decrease with sales of 1,765 units.
"Our record May sales were led by record sales of the green, safe, fun
Civic, Canada's top-selling car for the past nine consecutive years, and the
innovative Fit subcompact that features a full complement of safety features
and high fuel efficiency," said Jim Miller, executive vice president, Honda
Canada Inc. "We continue to see strong truck sales by our Honda and Acura
brands, including the Honda CR-V, Pilot and Ridgeline, and the Acura MDX and
RDX that are popular with Canadian buyers because of their functionality, fuel
efficiency, safety and innovative features."
In May, Honda Canada announced the Honda Benefit program profiling the
advantage found in every Honda car and truck - the right balance of safety,
fuel efficiency and fun-to-drive performance.
Honda's record sales were fuelled by record May Civic sales of 8,903, up
40%, and by all-time record monthly sales of the fuel-efficient Fit premium
hatchback of 1,643, up 28%. Honda trucks also were strong with record May
sales of both Pilot, up 11%, and Ridgeline, up 10%, as well as the new Honda
CR-V, up 10 per cent. Acura's new MDX luxury sport-utility vehicle reported
record May sales of 469 units, up 54%.

Honda Canada manufactures the Honda Ridgeline and Civic, and the Acura CSX and
MDX at its two plants in Alliston, Ontario. A new, third plant in Alliston,
with the capacity to produce up to 200,000 fuel-efficient 4-cylinder engines
annually, is scheduled to open in 2008.
