Honda Accord Wins 'Best In Class' Award

Accord Sedan Named 'Best New Family Car' by Canadian Auto Journalists

TORONTO, Dec. 4 /CNW/ - Honda's quality in the design, engineering and
manufacturing of the new 2008 Honda Accord sedan was recognized by the
Automobile Journalists Association of Canada (AJAC). The Accord was voted as
the "Best New Family Car" in the 26th annual AJAC Canadian Car of the Year
competition.
The Honda Accord is now eligible to compete for the overall Canadian Car
of the Year award which will be announced at the Canadian International Auto
Show in Toronto on February 13.
The 2008 AJAC Car and Truck of the Year competition was conducted in late
October near Niagara-On-The-Lake. More than 70 journalist members of AJAC were
involved in four days of back-to-back test evaluations of 59 individual
products in 12 separate categories. The event is designed to provide Canadian
consumers with sound, comparative information on vehicles that are new to the
market, according to AJAC officials.
The Honda Accord EX Sedan competed in the Family Car category against
five other competitive products. The 2008 Honda Accord Coupe V6 with 6-speed
manual transmission was one of three finalists in the "Best New
Sports/Performance Car Under $50,000" category.
"We are very proud of this award and thank the members of the Automobile
Journalists Association of Canada for their vote of confidence in our new
Accord sedan," said Jim Miller, executive vice president, Honda Canada, Inc.
"With more than three-quarter of a million Accords sold to date in Canada
since its introduction in 1976, the Accord has remained a valid choice for
Canadian families looking for high levels of dependability, quality and
reliability - attributes that are hallmarks of the Accord as a perennial
segment leader as the consummate family car."
The new, redesigned 2008 Honda Accord features an expanded range of
innovative technologies designed for greater efficiency, enhanced safety, and
more power across a lineup of stylish sedans and coupes. It is designed to
exemplify expressive styling, fun-to-drive performance and innovative
packaging.
The Accord is available in sedan and coupe body styles with two
variations of a 2.4-litre 4-cylinder and two iterations of the 3.5-litre V-6
engine. The two L4 engines have 177 and 190 horsepower, respectively, with
estimated city/highway fuel economy ratings of 9.4/6.4 L/100km (with manual
transmission).
    An available 3.5-litre i-VTEC V-6 engine produces 268 horsepower - the
most ever for any Accord - while introducing a new generation of fuel-saving
advanced Variable Cylinder Management(TM) (VCM) technology and achieving low
emissions. The VCM system operates in six-cylinder mode for power in and 4-
and 3-cylinder modes for efficiency, resulting in an estimated city/highway
fuel economy rating of 11.0/6.7 L/100 km.
Premium quality with a spacious design describes the philosophy behind
the Accord's interior. The larger interior is intended to provide "equal"
seating comfort for front and rear passengers. There is increased rear legroom
and width to allow the front seats to be positioned farther apart for a wide
center.
The Accord Sedan rides on a longer wheelbase and is slightly longer than
the 2007 model. The longer wheelbases contribute to improved ride
characteristics. The premium suspension design and wider track, along with
wider tire sizes and standard ABS and Vehicle Stability Assist (VSA), are
intended to enhance driver confidence and handling performance under a variety
of situations and road conditions.
Through a comprehensive approach to vehicle safety, Honda seeks to
provide the highest level of occupant and pedestrian protection in all its
cars and trucks, regardless of size or price. Every 2008 Accord integrates
sophisticated safety technology that includes driver's and front passenger's
dual-chamber side airbags; side curtain airbags; dual-stage, dual-threshold
driver's and front passenger's airbags; and active head restraints to reduce
neck injuries in the event of a rear collision.
New for Accord is an Advanced Compatibility Engineering(TM) (ACE) body
structure that enhances frontal collision compatibility with vehicles of
different sizes and bumper heights. Standard active safety features include
VSA and four-wheel-disc anti-lock brake system with brake assist and
electronic brake distribution.

Honda Canada provides Canadians with a wide range of dependable vehicles,
motorcycles, power equipment and marine engines. With 130 manufacturing
facilities in 29 countries worldwide, Honda attracts more than 20 million
customers annually. Honda Canada manufactures the Honda Ridgeline and Civic,
and the Acura MDX and CSX at its two assembly plants in Alliston, Ontario.
