Hockey Canada's National Junior Team Partners with Red Bull Salzburg for 2008 IIHF World Junior Championship

Team Canada to Utilize Training Facilities, Knowledge-Share and
Team-Building Activities with Austrian Club in preparation for World
    Juniors

TORONTO, Dec. 10 /CNW/ - Hockey Canada and Red Bull announced today that
Canada's 2008 National Junior (Under-20) Team will conduct on- and off-ice
pre-World Junior training in Salzburg, Austria, in cooperation with the Red
Bull Salzburg hockey club from December 15 - 19, 2007.
Canada's National Junior Team will visit Salzburg after selection camp to
utilize the training facilities of their host EC Red Bull Salzburg. The
objective to the pre-competition, five-day camp is to promote physical
training and team morale in lead up to the 2008 IIHF World Junior Championship
in Pardubice and Liberec, Czech Republic (26 Dec 2007 - 5 Jan 2008).
The highlight of Team Canada's five-day stay will be a friendly game in
Salzburg against the Red Bulls' Under-20 team. In addition to intensive on-ice
training in the Salzburg Ice Arena, Team Canada will also utilize the
facilities at the Red Bull Diagnostics and Training Centre, an intensive
physical and mental training facility that has facilitated world-class
athletes such as World Cup alpine skier Erik Guay, Champ Car World Series
champion Sébastien Bourdais, and X-Games legend Travis Pastrana.
Hockey Canada will also use the opportunity as a platform to share their
knowledge and expertise with Red Bull Salzburg. A franchise committed to
building the sport of hockey in Austria on both an amateur and professional
level, Red Bull Salzburg has recruited world-class management to spearhead
club and national development, including sporting director and head coach
Pierre Pagé (formerly NHL head coach and general manager) and Swedish hockey
guru Anders Melinder. In 2007, Red Bull Salzburg established themselves as
Austria's leading hockey franchise by winning the national league title. The
club continuously strives to track progress versus renown international
competition, most notably this year's Red Bulls Salute invitational
tournament, featuring the Los Angeles Kings, seven-time Swedish champions
Fdrjestad BK and reigning Swiss champions HC Davos.
"We're excited for the opportunity to work with Hockey Canada. Hosting
the world's premier junior program will have not only an immediate impact on
the players and coaching staff of EC Red Bull Salzburg, but make a lasting
imprint on the ideology and ambitions of Austrian hockey," said Pagé. "The
knowledge-sharing that will be conducted here is symbolic of the dialogue
needed between established and emerging hockey nations to help advance the
sport around the world and secure its prosperity."
