Hill & Knowlton Canada launches Online Election Predictor for Ontario Election

Election Predictor puts the power of prediction into the hands of
    Ontarians (http://ontariopredictor.hillandknowlton.ca)

TORONTO, Sept. 10 /CNW/ - After resounding success in the previous
federal and Quebec elections, Hill & Knowlton Canada's online prediction tool
(http://ontariopredictor.hillandknowlton.ca) has ventured onto the Ontario
scene allowing political enthusiasts of all stripes to see how potential
changes in popular support can translate into who wins and loses on election
night. Professional prognosticators and amateurs alike are invited to test
their seat predictions for the upcoming Ontario provincial election. This H&K
created tool offers users the unique ability to include split or swing
predictions as they ponder overall election results and regionally-tailored
forecasts.
The site will be up for one month - ending on Ontario's Election Day,
October 10th, 2007.
"For Ontarians interested in politics, this is the most exciting time in
the last 4 years. Speculating on the outcome of an election can spark the most
interesting conversations among friends and co-workers," said Jeff Smith,
General Manager, Hill & Knowlton Toronto. "Provincial politics inspires some
of the most passionate debates around our kitchen tables and reminds us that
our decision on voting day can affect our daily lives. H&K public affairs
consultants have put forward educated election predictions for years. This
site, based on the most current technology marries our love and understanding
of the power of social media with our love and insights into politics. Using
the site lets everyone be a political insider during the election."
H&K's Election Predictor, the first online tool of its kind in Canada,
uses proportional shift to generate seat predictions. Each party's percentage
of popular vote is compared against the results of the 2003 election on a
redistributed riding-by-riding basis. The percentage difference is then either
added or subtracted from the previous result each party achieved in that
riding. As an added benefit, Hill & Knowlton has for the first time
incorporated new technology that allows users to share their predictions with
their Facebook friends.
While no seat calculator will ever give a 100% accurate prediction, H&K's
Election Predictor is a fun and interactive way for people to weigh in with
their own seat predictions.
