OTTAWA, Jan. 21 /CNW/ - Road to Excellence (RTE) announced today the
recent hiring of Mitch Geller and Sean Scott, who have joined the organization
as high performance advisors. As well, administrative coordinator Shelley
Milton has been brought aboard, providing Road to Excellence with an increased
capacity in staff as it gears for the Beijing 2008 and London 2012 Olympic and
"Road to Excellence is very excited to have Mitch, Sean and Shelley as
part of the RTE team," said Alex Baumann, Executive Director of Road to
Excellence and double Olympic gold medallist in swimming. "All three bring a
great deal of passion, insight and experience to Road to Excellence, which can
only help Canadian athletes in their continued pursuit of excellence."
Geller is chief technical officer at Diving Plongeon Canada (DPC) and
brings an assorted background in, among other areas, motivational strategies,
Olympic preparation plans, budget management and national team selection. He
also has significant major games experience dating back to 1990. While
continuing as the overall lead for DPC technical operations, Geller will share
his expertise with Road to Excellence on a part-time basis until the 2008
Olympic Games, after which he will join the initiative full time.
He joins an experienced team that includes Scott, a former high
performance coaching consultant with the Coaching Association of Canada. Scott
also previously served as senior sports consultant at the Australian Sports
Commission, where from 2002 to 2007 he led research and analysis into sports
policy. He brings a technical expertise in developing programs for national
Both Scott and Geller will help Road to Excellence create an environment
of training and competition designed to give athletes and coaches the greatest
opportunity to achieve podium success at the Olympic or Paralympic Games.
Milton brings strong project management support to her role as
administrative coordinator. She is a former project coordinator with Field
Hockey Canada as well as a sports event administrator with Gestev Inc., a
Quebec event management firm.

Road to Excellence (RTE) is a collaborative summer sport technical
initiative of the Canadian Olympic Committee, the Canadian Paralympic
Committee, and Sport Canada. RTE is designed to provide technical support and
assistance to targeted summer National Sport Organizations to prepare athletes
for future Olympic and Paralympic Games. The goal for RTE is for Canada to
place among the top 12 nations at the 2012 Olympic Games in London and to
place among the top five nations at the 2012 Paralympic Games in London.
