Head & Shoulders: First hair care brand to receive independent Dermatology Review Panel endorsement

Head & Shoulders anti-dandruff claims meet Panel's stringent
criteria; new packaging features the DRP seal

TORONTO, Oct. 30 /CNW/ - When making choices about which brands to
choose, it's always good to have an expert opinion. Now consumers have that
help in the hair care aisle. Head & Shoulders, Canada's No.1 selling
anti-dandruff shampoo and conditioner, has received the Dermatology Review
Panel (DRP) seal of approval and will soon display it on all its products. The
DRP seal helps consumers and medical professionals easily identify products
that meet the panel's strict guidelines and standards, and encourages
manufacturers to engage in more consumer and clinical skin care studies to
demonstrate the efficacy of a product.
"We are thrilled to receive the DRP's approval on Head & Shoulders
shampoos and conditioners," says Alex Collins, Head & Shoulders brand manager
in Canada. "Our P&G scientists have worked diligently to ensure Head &
Shoulders provides an effective scalp and hair care experience. Having a team
of independent dermatologists validates our product claims and offers
consumers even more confidence in Head & Shoulders as an effective
anti-dandruff treatment."
The Dermatology Review Panel, a division of DRP Dermatology Inc., was
formed to provide an independent dermatologists' review of non-prescription
skin care products (including over-the-counter and other consumer products
with skin care-related claims). The DRP comprises leading dermatologists from
across Canada, who were selected based on their expertise in various skin care
areas, geographical diversity and dedication to the mission of this program.

"Many consumers are confused by claims made regarding consumer products,"
says Dr. Richard Thomas, Dermatology Review Panel. "The DRP program has been
formed to provide an independent dermatologists' review of non-prescription
skin care products. Head & Shoulders should be very proud to have earned the
endorsement."
Each DRP reviewer evaluates submissions by manufacturers to verify that
there is acceptable scientific data to validate their products' claims. The
Dermatology Review Panel's seal is then granted to approved products for a
three-year period pursuant and subject to the terms of the panel's Product
Review and Certification Agreement.
"With so many products to choose from, my patients frequently ask me to
recommend products and treatments," says Dr. Vince Bertucci, dermatologist and
consultant to Head & Shoulders. "Having an external blinded review and
endorsement can help both consumers and health professionals make informed
product choices."
