ORLANDO, FL, March 10 /CNW/ - HD Supply Utilities, the largest electric
utility distributor in North America, is continuing to build momentum since
adding the new RStandard composite electric utility pole to its comprehensive
portfolio of products. The RStandard pole is manufactured and supplied by
Resin Systems Inc. ("RS") (RS - TSX / RSSYF - OTCBB), a developer of
innovative advanced material products.
More than 70 North American electric utilities have installed this
stronger, yet lighter, utility pole for transmission and distribution. Early
customers of RStandard poles include Southern California Edison, Florida Power
and Light, Duke Energy (Cinergy), Los Angeles Department of Water & Power,
Baltimore Gas & Electric, Austin Energy, Hydro One and Hydro Ottawa.
After a series of recent successful pilot installations, another major
electric utility has entered into a three-year, long-term contract to use
RStandard poles system-wide. Initial deliveries for this multi-million dollar
contract have started on a graduating scale and are expected to peak at the
end of the contract period.
"In addition to regular sales, it is one of our goals to increase our
utility pole market penetration in North America through long-term strategic
supply contracts. This long-term contract adds an important strategic partner
to our RStandard pole customer base," said Paul Giannelia, president and chief
executive officer of RS. "We will work with HD Supply Utilities to build on
the momentum of this agreement."
Wooden poles, which are susceptible to time, pests and the elements, make
up about 90 percent of the market. RStandard poles differ from their wooden
counterparts in a number of ways. They are modular, which increases
flexibility to meet multiple pole strengths and class requirements with
minimal inventory; lightweight, allowing for easier transporting, handling and
installation, which reduces costs; and made of Ultra-strong Version(TM) resin
and advanced composite materials to deliver superior durability and
strength-to-weight performance. In addition, RStandard composite poles are not
chemically treated, offering an environmentally friendly solution that saves
trees; non-conductive, increasing safety for line crews; and not affected by
rot, corrosion, pests or harsh weather, limiting the need for inspections and
HD Supply Utilities is the exclusive distributor of RS's RStandard
transmission and distribution poles within the United States, Canada, Mexico,
Bermuda, Bahamas and all of the Caribbean Islands.
"We saw the impact RStandard can make in the electric utility industry
when we entered into our relationship with RS Technologies, a division of RS,"
explained Joe LeNoir, VP of Sales, HD Supply Utilities. "We are excited about
the increased flexibility, cost effectiveness and myriad of long-term benefits
the product offers our customers."

the utility nor the terms of the contract can be released.)
