Halifax hosts best and brightest from Canadian industry

A pre-Canada Day celebration of forward-thinking auto recyclers

HALIFAX, June 24 /CNW/ - Auto recyclers and collision experts from across
Canada will meet in Halifax over the next two days to develop strategies for
the industry's future and to celebrate their success. To kick off this
important weekend, the Automotive Recyclers Association of Atlantic Canada
(ARAAC) and the Automotive Recyclers of Canada (ARC) will host an event to
recognize how auto recycling protects the environment and contributes to the
Canadian economy.
Please join us on June 26th, 2009 at 9:30 am at the Marriott Harbourfront
Hotel, 1919 Upper Water Street in Halifax for a brief address from Steve
Fletcher, Managing Director of ARC, followed by refreshments, and photo
opportunities with the most recycled product in the world as it is taken away
under the national Retire Your Ride Program.
In addition, Automotive Recyclers Association (ARA) Past President, Sandy
Blalock, will travel from Santa Fe, New Mexico to present ARC with their Star
Award. ARC won the prestigious ARA Affiliate Chapter of the Year award in
Kansas City last year.
Representatives from ARAAC, Clean Air Foundation, ARC and regional auto
recyclers will be in attendance, along with local dignitaries.

    Did you know?
        - Utilizing recycled parts saves an estimated 80 billion barrels of
           oil annually
        - Utilizing recycled parts in the collision repair process
           substantially reduces insurance costs
        - Over 75% of an entire vehicle by weight is reused, re-manufactured
           or recycled
        - The amount of toxic oils and fluids safely reclaimed by auto
recyclers is the equivalent of eight Exxon Valdez disasters every
           year
        - Vehicles manufactured before 1996 emit 19 times more air pollution
than 2004 or newer vehicles. Retire Your Ride is a national
program committed to improving air quality in Canada by
           responsibly recycling eligible pre-1996 vehicles
        - Many vehicles produced before 2003 have switches that contain
nearly one gram of mercury each. Just one gram of mercury is
enough to pollute an eight hectare lake to the point where the
fish are inedible for one year
