Group SJR's Canadian operations ramp up as it sets up shop north of the border

The biggest publishing company you've never heard of has landed (and is expanding) in Canada

TORONTO, Jan. 12, 2016 /CNW/ - Group SJR, a Hill+Knowlton company and the 2014 Content Marketing Agency of the Year, is quickly expanding its Canadian operations under the leadership of Selena Cameron who has been named president of SJR Canada, effective immediately.

This move positions the company to bring to Canada, a differentiated approach to branded content.  With a focus on bringing innovative partnerships to its Canadian clients and partners including Truffle Pig, a social content solution that is a joint venture between Snapchat, the Daily Mail and Group SJR, this expansion will give Canadian brands access a proven approach to digital storytelling already employed by some of the world's top companies.

"We live in an information-rich, always-on world and reaching anyone is harder than ever – breaking through means being disruptive," said Alexander Jutkowitz, CEO at Group SJR. "SJR has always delivered that disruption through innovation – high-quality content at a cadence and on platforms that make sure our clients truly stand out. We've been fortunate to work with many Canadian companies but are looking forward to building a strong local team to bring the same approach to more clients in Canada with Selena at the helm."

A senior strategist with a background in activating consumers, Cameron has worked for some of the world's top brands in Canada, the UK and the U.S. She joins Group SJR from Hill+Knowlton Strategies where, most recently, she led business development and marketing for the company's Americas region out of New York, which included close collaboration with Group SJR.

"We're surrounded by so much content these days that we take for granted what makes it truly great," said Cameron. "Content is a bit like tofu – it's nothing on its own, it's only as good as the strategy, creativity and technology we put into it. That's what sets SJR "North" apart. Canadian businesses have thousands of interesting stories to tell. And, by using data, rich visuals and a journalistic approach, we can tell those stories in a way that really resonates."

New to the team are Meredith Montgomery (nee Rogers) as senior director and Alexandra (Ali) Wilson as director, who join Zack Sandor-Kerr, senior director.

A digital strategist with a communications background, Meredith led several award-winning content strategies and influencer-based programs for clients at Hill+Knowlton. Rogers got her start in public relations in Qatar.

With a background in corporate, tech, and digital PR, Ali has produced a stream of top-level editorial and multimedia content for clients. Also joining from Hill+Knowlton, Ali has deep experience in the auto, food and beverage, and tech sectors.

"Meredith is a trusted client advisor and a fantastic manager and mentor. We are thrilled to have her on board as we kick-start our growth and expansion," Cameron said. "And, with Ali's proven experience executing campaigns for major global companies, and Zack's creative strategy, we have a team that can deliver the kind of marketing disruption that has been missing in the Canadian marketplace."

With current Canadian clients across the automotive, beverage alcohol, energy, financial services and infrastructure sectors, SJR Canada will continue to draw on talent from its Toronto-based editorial team as well as its New York headquarters.
