Grocery industry meets at Grocery Innovations Canada 2008 Oct. 26 & 27

Galen G. Weston & Tom Peters to address delegates

TORONTO, Oct. 24 /CNW/ - "The Canadian grocery industry has changed more
dramatically in the last two years than it has in the last ten years," says
John F.T. Scott, president, Canadian Federation of Independent Grocers. To
keep up with the fast changing, $76 billion Canadian retail grocery industry,
more than 6,000 industry personnel are gathering at Grocery Innovations
Canada, the country's largest grocery trade show and conference on Sunday,
October 26 and Monday, October 27 at Toronto Congress Centre.
Health, wellness, food safety, the echo generation, boomers, the
environment and a softening economic forecast are impacting the way food is
processed, prepared, packaged, delivered, priced and marketed.
Time-challenged, value-driven consumers are more nutritionally aware than ever
before, and this year's product line-up puts convenience and conscience
together with a host of "better for you" choices.
Sunday's conference includes presentations from Canada's favourite green
grocer, Pete Luckett; industry expert Harold Lloyd; and Eric Chester, founder
of Generation "Why?". The morning program continues Monday when columnist and
TV host Dr. Marla Shapiro; Galen G. Weston, Executive Chairman Loblaw
Companies Limited; and internationally renowned author and consultant Tom
Peters provide their perspectives to industry delegates.
GIC 2008 is a chance to sample product introductions, place orders for
the coming season and gain a national perspective. The trade show features
thousands of new product introductions from national brands and independent
food processors at its 550 exhibits. Special displays include provincial
exhibits, First Time Exhibitor Pavilion, Best New Products and Fancy Food
Forum.
The 4th annual Canadian Best Bagger Contest attracts grocery store
employees from coast-to-coast who have been winning "bag-offs" in their
regions all summer for the chance to compete for the national title, trophy
and cash prize in Toronto.
GIC 2008 concludes Monday evening with the announcement of the
prestigious Canadian Independent Grocer of the Year Awards during the 46th
Annual Grocery Distributors Dinner.
Grocery Innovations Canada is presented by the Canadian Federation of
Independent Grocers. Canada's premier grocery industry exposition runs Sunday,
October 26 and Monday, October 27 at Toronto Congress Centre, 650 Dixon Road,
Toronto. Trade show hours: 11 am to 5 pm daily. Trade Only. For more details:
