Greenpeace welcomes the international climate secretariat for Montreal

MONTREAL, June 22 /CNW Telbec/ - Statement by Dave Martin, Greenpeace
climate and energy coordinator on the announcement today of the establishment
of an international secretariat on climate change in Montreal:

"Greenpeace welcomes the new office in Montreal of the Global Campaign
for Climate Action (GCCA). It will give Canadian environmental groups a
vital boost to get real action on climate change from the Harper
government, while linking us to an international movement.
"The federal government has a woeful record on taking action on climate
change. Support from the GCCA and the tcktcktck.org campaign will be
crucial in helping all climate groups mobilize Canadians across the
country to put greater pressure on the Harper government to support a
strong international agreement on climate change in Copenhagen in
    December."

Key points about the international secretariat:
    - represents major environmental organizations around the world
    - provides vital funding in key political battlegrounds in the fight
      against global warming
    - is providing important funding for Canadian environmental groups across
      the country
