Green Trailblazer Bullfrog Power Celebrates Second Birthday

Second year sees thousands making the leap to green power

Note to editors: Bullfrog Power and its customers will celebrate the
anniversary at a special event, the annual Bullfrog Bash, at Steam
Whistle Brewing -- a bullfrogpowered facility -- on the evening of
    October 4, 2007.

    TORONTO, Oct. 4 /CNW/ - Bullfrog Power(TM), a leading Canadian provider
of 100 per cent green electricity, announced today the celebration of its
second anniversary. Bullfrog Power sources power exclusively from clean,
emission-free sources including wind and low-impact hydro generators that meet
or exceed the federal government's Environmental Choice(M) Program EcoLogo(M)
standard for renewable electricity. Bullfrog Power provides businesses,
non-profits and consumers with a new way to support renewable power.
Since its fall 2005 launch Bullfrog Power has grown rapidly, with close
to 5,000 residential customers and almost 400 businesses in Ontario making the
choice for clean, renewable power. In June 2007, Albertans began making the
leap to green as Bullfrog launched its 100 per cent green electricity service
to Alberta residents and businesses.
"Two years ago, Bullfrog Power was launched with the belief that when
offered a choice, homeowners and business leaders would choose clean, green
energy," said Tom Heintzman, President, Bullfrog Power. "Two years later, it's
clear that belief was well founded -- Canadians care passionately about the
environment and are ready to make a difference."
Homeowners from across Ontario and Alberta have switched to green with
Bullfrog. Residential customers include author Margaret Atwood, chef Jamie
Kennedy, gardening guru Mark Cullen, and lead singer of the Tragically Hip,
Gord Downie. "Switching to clean, green electricity from Bullfrog Power was an
important choice our family made in our journey to lighten our impact on the
planet," said Bruce Rhodes, a residential Bullfrog customer in Richmond Hill.
"We are thrilled to be part of the growing community of green power supporters
and are delighted to wish Bullfrog a very happy second birthday!"
Almost 400 businesses and organizations -- including Wal-Mart Canada,
Ivanhoe Cambridge, Cadbury Adams, BMO Financial Group, RBC Financial Group,
lululemon athletica and the Ontario Ministry of the Environment -- have also
made the switch to Bullfrog Power, and new organizations join the ranks of the
bullfrogpowered daily. In June 2007, Wal-Mart Canada made history by expanding
their purchase of green power to make them the largest commercial purchaser of
green power in Canada.
The accelerating demand for Bullfrog Power has spurred the development of
new renewable generation projects in Ontario including an expansion of the
Ferndale wind farm in the fall of 2006, the commissioning of new turbines on
Manitoulin Island in partnership with Schneider Power in the spring of 2007,
and the planned fall 2007 development of a new wind farm near Grand Bend,
Ontario, in partnership with Sky Generation. All of the new Ontario wind
projects Bullfrog Power has enabled are in addition to initiatives driven by
the Ontario Ministry of Energy to increase renewable power in the province. To
serve its Alberta customer base, Bullfrog Power is sourcing all the green
power from the first two newly commissioned turbines at the Oldman River wind
farm near Pincher Creek. Bullfrog Power is also investing in Alberta Wind
Energy Corporation to help expand the project in the future. More new
renewable projects are also in the works to meet the needs of Bullfrog Power's
growing customer base.
Earlier this week, the Canadian Wind Energy Association recognized
Bullfrog Power's efforts by presenting the company with the 2007 Group
Leadership Award, which is awarded annually to an organization that has
significantly advanced the wind energy industry in Canada.
"By generating consumer and commercial demand for green power, Bullfrog
is creating the necessary market conditions that allow renewable power
generation to grow and thrive in Canada," said Glen Estill, principal of Sky
Generation. "We're pleased to be partnered with Bullfrog to develop new wind
projects in the province."
Bullfrog Power continues to collaborate with environmental groups
including WWF Canada and the Pembina Institute to educate Canadians about the
role clean, renewable power development can play in helping to combat climate
change and air pollution.
