TORONTO, April 23 /CNW/ - Elementary public school teachers, members of
the Greater Essex Elementary Teacher Local of the Elementary Teachers'
Federation of Ontario (ETFO), reached a tentative agreement with the Greater
Essex County District School Board yesterday evening.
"It's a good agreement. It protects valuable working conditions and
improves those that needed enhancement," said ETFO President David Clegg.
"At the end of the day, the board recognized that if you treat elementary
teachers as the professionals they are, the winners will be the students in
Greater Essex," Clegg said.
"This deal was realized because of the determination of our negotiating
team, the support of our members, and the will of the Greater Essex District
School Board. We can now look forward to a more positive and productive
environment for elementary teachers and their students in Greater Essex," said
Adelina Cecchin, President of the ETFO Greater Essex County Teacher Local.
Details of the agreement will be available following a members'
The Local represents approximately 1,460 public elementary teachers.
Their last contract expired August 31, 2008.
The Elementary Teachers' Federation of Ontario represents 73,000
elementary public school teachers and education workers across the province
and is the largest teacher federation in Canada.
